Environmental Contracting Technician

The employee will be required to work as part of a team to deliver high quality and often complex mitigation and habitat management work on sites nationwide. This will involve travelling from our Radbourne (Derbyshire) office to various sites to carry out mitigation fencing operations, badger sett closures, planting, vegetation clearance and various other land-based tasks. Sometimes it will be necessary to stay away from home when working on sites more than an hour’s travel from the office. At this grade there will be an expectation to occasionally plan and deliver smaller sites, liaising with inhouse ecologists, arboriculturists, landscapers and external contractors, recruitment agencies, suppliers and clients to ensure work is delivered to requirements and within deadlines. The role will include the use of machinery and plant, of which training will be provided prior to use. The employee will also be required to maintain and prepare tools and equipment for projects and to maintain work vehicles after use.

Scope of works in the job role includes but is not limited to:

• Newt/reptile fencing.
• Other fencing (Post & rail, birdsmouth, subterranean badger fencing).
• Vegetation clearance & felling using brush cutters and chainsaws.
• Tree protection fencing.
• Habitat creation (Hibernacula, ponds).
• Grassland translocation.
• Planting/seeding/turfing.
• Badger sett closures.
• Artificial badger sett creation.
• Footpaths.
• Swales.
• Bat & bird box installation.

Relevant training/qualifications for this role (desirable) include:

• LANTRA (or other work-based) diploma or certificate in outdoor conservation work
• Construction safety CSCS card holder
• NPTC Chainsaw maintenance & crosscutting
• NPTC Chainsaw – felling
• NPTC Certificate of competence in brush cutting operations
• NPTC Safe use of a brush woodchipper
• Emergency First Aid at Work
• RTITB/CPCS/NPORS Tracked Excavator
• RTITB/CPCS/NPORS Dumper (5 ton)

Salary based on experience and on a 40 hour per week contract. 28 days holiday entitlement including bank holidays, in addition to an extended period of paid leave over the Christmas. Company mobile phone provided and access to several departmental laptops as required. Uncapped training budget available to apply. Access to a fleet of work vehicles for business use.
