Seasonal Assistant Ecologist

The available positions will involve you undertaking a wide range of tasks alongside our team as well as independently. General day to day tasks will include but are not limited to: 

• Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) where you will be working on site to safeguard protected species from direct harm alongside our in-house contracting department.  
• Supporting the team with their projects through interpreting data searches, production of pond searches and mapping phase 2 survey data. 
• Data analysis including static bat detector, infrared bat camera data and badger camera trap footage. 
• Assisting senior members of the team through survey preparation with opportunities to shadow Phase 1 Habitat surveys.  
• Protected species surveys, principally including, reptile, great crested newt and bats surveys however there may be opportunity to assist with additional species surveys such as otter, water vole, badger and dormouse!  
• Protected species translocations  

Brindle and Green undertake a wide variety project work across the UK. You as a seasonal ecologist will be travelling with members of the team to these sites to undertake protected species surveys, for which we provide a full fleet of state-of-the-art vehicles! 

While working for Brindle and Green you will receive internal training on conducting protected species surveys, ECoW, GIS, and data analysis which will provide you with an excellent list of essential skills towards your career in ecology.  

Our ideal candidates will meet some of the criteria outlined below: 

Essential criteria 

• Have or working towards a relevant degree or degree level qualification. 
• Basic understanding of ecological consultancy. 
• An interest in wildlife conservation/ecology. 
• Ability to work within a team. 
• Communication skills. 
• Flexibility to work away on long distance sites where required for more than on consecutive night. 
• Willing to work unsociable hours during the bat survey season. 
• Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle.
• Live within a commutable distance to our Derby office. 

Desirable criteria 

• Have or working towards a protected species survey license. 
• Have or working towards a qualifying CIEEM membership. 
• Experience of phase 1 habitat surveys. 
• Valid CSCS card. 
• Understanding of principles of ecological consultancy and wildlife legislation. 
• Experience with QGIS.
